General FAQ's

What is Geotech Assist?

Geotech Assist is an AI-powered application that streamlines the geotechnical inspection process in open pit mines. It ensures critical information is easily accessible and empowers geotechnical engineers to make data-driven decisions, saving time and improving risk management.

How does Geotech Assist improve upon the current geotechnical inspection process?

Currently, geotechnical engineers complete inspections either on paper forms or via an app, and valuable information often gets filed away, making it difficult to access and analyse later. This can lead to critical data being overlooked or forgotten, especially when assessing geotechnical hazards.

Geotech Assist addresses these challenges by using ChatGPT-4o to parse the text from daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, as well as specific hazard assessments, into a structured database. The chatbot interface allows engineers to easily query this data, ensuring that important observations are never lost.

By streamlining the inspection process and providing powerful data management and analysis tools, Geotech Assist enables mining professionals to work more efficiently and effectively, ultimately improving geotechnical risk management on site.

Can Geotech Assist replace trained geotechnical professionals?

No, Geotech Assist is not a substitute for trained geotechnical professionals collecting high-quality observations. The application is designed to assist engineers by removing manual, routine work and providing a user-friendly interface for data interrogation. Geotechnical professionals are still essential for conducting inspections, interpreting data, and making informed decisions.

Can users customise the database in Geotech Assist?

Yes, Geotech Assist allows users to select and define the categories for the database. Geotech Assist lets you define custom fields for your database, ensuring the application fits your specific site requirements and geotechnical data needs. By providing context for each field Geotech Assist will be able to populate the database using the text from the inspection. Field can be either text, categorical or numerical.

You have full control over what data is captured and how it's structured, allowing for a tailored solution that meets your unique demands.

How can the AI chat interface in Geotech Assist help geotechnical engineers be more efficient?

Geotech Assist’s chatbot works just like ChatGPT but based on your inspection observations, it's like having a perfect memory of all your observation ever collected. By using the chatbot, geotechnical engineers can spend more time analysing data and making informed decisions rather than manually searching for information.

The user can also ask the chat interface to help compose routine communications or summary reports based on the observation data. This greatly improves efficiency, productivity, and communication within the mining team. Within minutes users can go from evaluating observations to communicating hazards.

The chatbot interface in Geotech Assist can assist with tasks such as:

  • Summarise information from multiple inspections about a specific hazard.

  • Assist the user to identify trends from descriptive observations.

  • Generate weekly or monthly inspection summaries.

  • Assist in composing emails or reports based on inspection observations.

What are some tips for creating effective prompts to get the most relevant and useful information from the Geotech Assist chatbot?

To get the best results from the Geotech Assist chatbot, users should create clear, specific, and well-structured prompts. Here are some tips:

  • Be specific: Clearly state the information you're looking for, such as a particular hazard, location, or time period.

  • Use keywords: Include relevant keywords related to your query, such as "hazard," "location," or "rock type."

  • Provide context: If necessary, give background information to help the chatbot understand your query better.

  • Use simple language: Avoid jargon or complex terminology that might confuse the chatbot.

  • Break down complex queries: If you have a multi-part question, consider breaking it down into smaller, more focused prompts.

  • Review and refine: If the chatbot's response doesn't fully address your needs, try rephrasing your prompt or providing additional context.

By following these tips, users can create effective prompts that help the chatbot provide the most relevant and useful information, saving time and effort in their geotechnical data analysis and communication tasks.

What is the purpose of the pit map feature in Geotech Assist?

The pit map feature in Geotech Assist renders the 3D location of geotechnical observations. This visual representation helps users better understand the distribution and relationships between hazards, facilitating more informed decision-making and risk management strategies.

What training and support is available for Geotech Assist users?

Large Language Models FAQ's

What are Large Language Models (LLMs), and how do they work in applications like Geotech Assist?

Large Language Models (LLMs) are AI systems that understand, process, and generate human-like responses. They are trained on large text datasets to learn language patterns and meanings. For Geotech Assist, a LLM (ChatGPT-4) interprets user inputs, structure data from inspection reports, and provides clear, contextually relevant responses, creating an efficient and user-friendly interface for analysing geotechnical data.

What are the limitations of the language model used in Geotech Assist?

At Geotech Assist, we want to be clear AI and LLM’s are not perfect and like any tool have limitations. We want to help users understand these limitations so they can get the most out of our tools.

The language model used in Geotech Assist, ChatGPT-4, is a state-of-the-art AI model. However, like all language models, it has limitations. It may occasionally generate responses that are not entirely accurate or relevant to the specific geotechnical context. Users should always critically evaluate the outputs and rely on their professional expertise when making decisions.

Data Security FAQ's

How does Geotech Assist handle data privacy and security?
